What Are Tonneau Covers Made Of?
Author: Ivar Rudi Title: What Are Tonneau Covers Made Of? Article: There are many different styles and brands of tonneau covers that you can purchase for your truck. Many times you will have the option of what you want and what you can afford for your vehicle. It will depend on the make and model of your truck and what the options available are for that particular model. You will have a great time figuring out what you want to have for your truck.
There are hard material tonneau covers that you can get. These are made of hard plastic and are very tough and durable. You can get a lot of years from one of these covers. They are made to keep the items that you have hidden underneath it protected. You can usually find these covers to come with a lock. This will make things even safer and secure when you cannot be in sight of your truck at all times.
The hard tonneau covers are nice, but they can be costly. If you are looking for something a little less expensive but still a good quality item, you may decide to have a vinyl cover. These are very good for all different reasons. The first being is that they serve their intended purpose and they are more affordable than the other style. You cannot lock this type, but you can still keep things protected underneath the cover. You will not have to worry about hauling things in the rain because the cover will keep the items underneath safe and sound.
A vinyl tonneau cover will need to be maintained more than that of plastic. When you have a vinyl cover, you will have to use a conditioner on it every so often to make sure that you are keeping the vinyl soft. This is so that when you stretch the vinyl cover across the bed of the truck to close, it will do so nicely. You do not want to have to worry about the cover ripping or tearing when you are trying to get it closed.
Some of the tonneau covers will close by snaps; Velcro and some even have a track that it slides into. All of the above ways are very useful and can be done easily with little effort. You will not have to worry about the cover coming undone when you are driving down the road. You can have confidence in knowing that your cover will be secure and stay in place.
When you have a vinyl tonneau cover, you should be careful that you do not have anything that will puncture the cover underneath it. If the vinyl is not taken care of, you may end up with a hole in the cover and you will find yourself trying to replace or fix the cover. Copyright 2006 – Ivar Rudi. Suzuki’s Sale In India Come Under Threat By New Honda Cars
Author: Anna Stenning Title: Suzuki\’s Sale In India Come Under Threat By New Honda Cars Article: Car manufacturers are changing their tactics and developing new strategies to increase sales in the current climate. One very important market for cars is India, where the order of the day is small and efficient cars.
One company that is planning to get in on this new market is Honda, who has made the commitment to produce and manufacturer a range of cars specifically for the Indian market. The second largest manufacturer in Japan has not been known for its range of smaller cars, but it has now announced that the next generation of Honda cars will be designed to appeal to this market.
The small car market counts for about 73 percent of the overall car market within India, which is densely populated with motor vehicles. The company already holds a good proportion of the market although not as good as Suzuki who are stated as having a 50 percent share of the country’s overall market sales.
Honda had initially been expecting a 20 percent drop when the credit crisis hit, but initial projections have proved to be incorrect and it is hoped that the new small Honda cars will help the company wrestle some of the market back from their Japanese counterparts.
The strategic move by the company might come as a bit of a shock. Although some of Honda cars are quite small with the Jazz and the Civic headlining their smaller range, they are still quite large in comparison to their European counterparts, who have a range of cars like the Mini and the Fiat 500.
If the company wants this new range of Honda cars to compete with the European models or the Suzuki Swift, then not only will some changes need to be made, but also the cost of the cars will have to be modified as they aren’t known for being that cheap to purchase. Instead they are considered more of a luxury item, with good economic and efficiency values.
The company have stated that they plan to release the new Honda cars at an affordable price, where it should work out at the same cost as the annual wage for the average worker. Whether or not this will prove to be a success only time will tell. It really will depend on what the consumers are getting for their money and if Honda plan to scale back in certain areas, what areas. Hopefully the company will continue to offer a competitive range of efficient cars that will enrich the car crazy culture of India, but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to overhaul Suzuki’s strangle hold on the country’s car market. Three Reasons Why People Love SUVs
Author: Everette Jamison Title: Three Reasons Why People Love SUVs Article: The last decade will likely become a footnote in automotive history. It was a time during which drivers were practically willing to take out a second mortgage on their homes in order to purchase a gargantuan SUV. To their credit, there were several advantages to owning one. Even so, as the specter of rising gas prices and the softening economy have converged, most car manufacturers have begun slimming down their inventory or dismantling their platforms.
Below, I’ll describe 3 of the most popular reasons why people fell in love with their sports utility vehicles. As motorists continue to seek vehicles that are more fuel-efficient, they’ll be forced to sacrifice the following features.
Number 1 – Height And Better View
A long time ago, most cars were relatively the same height. What’s more, few drivers tinted their windows. Times have changed. Cars, trucks, and even SUVs are raised. Plus, many people tint their windows so darkly, that it’s nearly impossible to see through them. The problem is that it’s often difficult for drivers to see around the cars in front of them.
Owners of H2 Hummers, Expeditions, and other massive sports utility vehicles gained the advantage of height. They were positioned higher off the ground, giving their drivers a better view of the road.
Number 2 – Lots Of Space
It’s not easy to pack an entire kids soccer team in the back of a small sedan. And packing supplies for a long road trip presents its own challenges. The problem is lack of space. Toyota Corollas and Nissan Altimas don’t afford their owners much extra room. By contrast, people who own Chevy Suburbans, Chrysler Aspens, or Escalades have more space than they can reasonably use (though some try). Your family, pets, hiking gear, and enough food to last the winter can fit comfortably.
Number 3 – The Lap Of Luxury
Manufacturers of sports utility vehicles likely never imagined that their SUVs would one day become the vehicles of choice for upscale professionals. Instead, their target demographic was the outdoorsman, the adventurous type who was braving the wilderness, not warming a seat in an office cubicle.
When professionals began buying SUVs, they started to demand certain luxuries. Navigation systems, iPod integration, DVD players, and temperature-controlled seats became the norm. Some of these features can still be enjoyed in smaller cars, but SUVs seemed particularly well-suited for them.
Saying Goodbye
Sports utility vehicles won’t die abruptly; it will likely take several years to weed them out of the road inventory. That said, their position as the most popular automotive segment will eventually end. As gas prices climb closer to $5 a gallon (despite the latest decline), SUV owners will grow weary of spending hundreds of dollars each month at the pump. They’ll begin to migrate to smaller cars. As that happens, sports utility vehicles will edge ever closer to the precipice of extinction. Jaguar Reinvents XJ220 As Stunning New R8 Beater
Author: Stuart Coster Title: Jaguar Reinvents XJ220 As Stunning New R8 Beater Article: Exciting news for Jaguar fans this week, as British car magazine Auto Express revealed that the company is planning to reinvent the legendary XJ220.
The magazine, well-regarded for its new car scoops, claims a dramatic new mid-engined sports car is being developed by Jaguar as a rival to the Audi R8.
While the concept is denied by Jaguar, the magazine claims that the car will make its debut at a major international motor show within the next 18 months – indicating that plans must already be well advanced.
In a nod to the iconic E-Type, the two-seater is tipped to be badged the XE, heralding a return to a more raw, sporting side of Jaguar heritage.
However this is not the first Jaguar concept thought to be set for the badge. Last year it was speculated that it would adorn a Porsche Boxster rivalling baby coupe-convertible that would sit below the XK in the range.
Plans for an R8 rival would mark another big step in the on-going overhaul of the dated Big Cat model range.
- XFR breaks record -
The revelation comes as the sports version of the new Jaguar XF model has smashed the company speed record.
In a graphic demonstration of the progress made in car design and engineering since the 1990s, an uprated four-door XFR saloon hit a top speed of 225.675 mph at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, going even faster than the 217.1 mph record set by the XJ220.
Rumours are that the minor developments to the showroom XFR that boosted the car to the record will debut on the road as a hotter XFR S model.
With a price that will undercut significantly the BMW M5, the flagship XFR is set to be a tough package to beat at the top of the executive saloon sector.
- Looking ahead -
Jaguar had a mixed year in 2008, launching the widely-praised new XF model and seeing UK sales rise by nine percent while many other luxury car brands faced a sales slump.
But this success was overshadowed by news towards the end of the year of extended shut downs at their West Midlands plant and job losses.
The contrast between sales success and job losses has led some to suspect another agenda at work in the minds of new owners Tata.
Gloomy forecasts for sales during 2009 may be to blame, but some are speculating whether Jaguar manufacturing operations and staff in Britain are at greater risk than assurances given at the time the Indian conglomerate bought the company from Ford.
With the current focus of Jaguar on developing its new XK and XF models, as well as launching an all-new luxury XJ saloon due in 2010, the XE is not likely to be seen in the showrooms before 2012.

Tractor Trailer Accident Statistics are High
Author: Nick Johnson Title: Tractor Trailer Accident Statistics are High Article: Across the interstates and highways of America, tractor trailer accidents are happening at an alarming rate. How many times have we heard the horror stories about an accident that involved an 18-wheeler, which completely wrecked another vehicle? Many of us have had the misfortune of witnessing one first hand. As you all know, it is not something you would wish to experience or see. One can only hope that the parties involved in a tractor trailer accident will be okay.
Tractor trailer accident statistics show that the roads of the United States witness over 500,000 accidents each year. This is according to data released by The United States Department of Transportation. Unfortunately, a high number of these types of accidents end in fatalities. This is due to the size of these monster vehicles that travel between states carrying cargo that can put these trucks at more than 80,000 pounds each.
What is even scarier about these statistics is that a high percentage of tractor trailer accidents are caused not by the driver of the truck. It is the driver of smaller vehicles that were involved in a crash, which is usually the cause in error of judgment. In such accidents, the driver in the smaller vehicle will most likely sustain a serious injury. On the flip side of that, many of these types of accidents will most likely end in fatalities. Does a 4-wheel car really have a chance against an 18-wheel truck?
Driving while under the influence of alcohol and other drugs is seen as a possible cause of tractor trailer accidents. But according to statistics, the number of accidents caused by a drunken truck driver is very low. There are a higher percentage of accidents due to driving under the influence, which faults the passenger vehicle. Driving while under the influence, will impair all motor skills, and might cause you to come face to face with a truck.
Fatigue caused by driving countless hours is found to be the leading cause of tractor trailer accidents in the United States. Truck drivers drive non-stop, staying awake for hours or days at a time. A lot of them do not get sufficient amount of rest before driving countless hours again. The drivers have cargos that have to reach their destination in a specific amount of time. If the drivers do not get their cargo to their destination, they will get penalized in their payment for the shipment.
As a precaution, we should be weary of these tractor trailer accident statistics. Trucks will travel side by side, with cars that are but a fraction of their enormous size, across major highways all over the United States. If you travel by interstate or highway, you are bound to run into a truck that commands the road with its size and power. Stay cautious, be a defensive driver, and always stay alert when you see an 18-wheel truck. An accident can happen at any time, it is better to be safe than sorry. History Of The Global Grand Prix
Author: Suzy Powell Title: History Of The Global Grand Prix Article: The Formula One World Championship began in 1950 and sixty years later is still the premier class in global motorsport with over 600 million viewers.
The very first championship featured just seven races, including the Indianapolis 500, but has grown into a multi-million pound global operation with 18 races in almost every continent.
It is the platform upon which many of the most memorable events in sporting history have been staged and has created household names of its drivers and teams with 2009 champion Jenson Button the latest driver to take the spoils.
Some of the most talented and fearless drivers ever to take the wheel have made their names synonymous with the sports. Drivers like Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, and Juan Manuel Fangio have all won several championships in the sport.
Michael Schumacher is the most successful driver to have raced in the sport with seven World Championship titles, 91 victories, and 68 pole positions to his name. When he retired in 2006, he has broken nearly every record in the sport.
The most experienced driver is Rubens Barrichello who by the end of the 2009 season had started in 284 races. In 2010, it is expected that he will become the first driver to have competed in over 300 Formula One races.
The most successful team in the sport is Ferrari. It is also the only team to have competed in every season of the sport since 1950 and the prestige, history and support of the team makes it one of the most famous names in world sport.
Williams, McLaren and Lotus are other names to have made a huge impact on the sport and between them have won over a third of the titles awarded since the sport began. McLaren and Williams still compete today but will be joined once again by Lotus in 2010 as the name returns to the sport for the first time since 1994.
Traditional tracks like Silverstone, Monaco and Monza were present in the very first Formula One championship but the sport has been promoted to new markets in recent years with state-of-the-art circuits being constructed in previously unchartered territory in China and the United Arab Emirates. In 2010, the arrival of the first South Korean grand prix will expand the calendar from 18 races to 19.
The first ever night race was held in Singapore 2008 when over 1,600 floodlights lit up the streets of Singapore to provide a spectacle the like of which had never been seen in the sport before.
A twilight grand prix became a reality in 2009 when the futuristic Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi hosted the first race to start in daylight and end under the dark of night.
In 2010, Formula One will continue to grow as cost cutting measures brought in to make the sport more affordable have attracted a host of new teams. Twenty-six cars will take to the track to battle it out for points, the most cars racing since the early stages of the 1995 season. Checklist For Those Looking For A Used Caravan
Author: Thomas Pretty Title: Checklist For Those Looking For A Used Caravan Article: Once you have seen the magazine pictures and realised how much fun caravanning can be it is hard to resist the urge to fork out for a caravan straight away. It may not however be worth buying new right away; after all, you may not fully understand the world of caravanning and a new caravan will be expensive. At this point you should probably consider looking at a used caravan as a more affordable and worthwhile option.
When you are looking at used caravans there are certain things you must remember so you do not get hoodwinked into buying a disgraceful example of a towed home. What follows is a checklist of the problems that can regularly occur in a caravan and issues that should be studied in detail before any purchase is made.
First and foremost the biggest problem a caravan faces is damp; this is especially true when looking at used caravans. It is important to check all of the corners, the bed boxes and lockers thoroughly for signs of damp and moisture. A useful tool that can be used for this purpose is a damp meter, available at most home and DIY stores. Check the sturdiness of cupboard and door handles by giving them a strong pull; loose fitting can sometimes mean that damp has got into the caravan. If there is a problem with damp, this used van is probably worth walking away from; you can sometimes end up paying twice as much for repairs than the original price.
As part of the damp prevention come the seals. A caravan may have many different types of seals used in its construction. The three most common of these seals are acrylic, silicone and oil-based. Ask the former owner or the dealer when the seals were last replaced; the lifespan of some seals is twenty years but others will only last five. Poor seals mean s that damp will ingress into the caravan easily. Check for rust on frames and screws and any damaged bits of sealant, the price of a new seals throughout the outfit can be as much as a thousand pounds.
It may seem obvious but the door and lockers should be checked so that they shut properly and can be locked securely. Check over the hinges and whether the doors still fit snugly into their frames. It may seem a minor expense but finding replacement doors, especially if the used van is somewhat old can be difficult. The same can be said for the windows and window frames; as an even more expensive outlay, the price of new windows can start from around 180 pounds.
As important as the doors are the floors of a caravan. Check for any signs of sagging and any areas that may seem weak. The most important places to check are near the door, around the kitchen and the living quarters as these are the areas used most frequently. If sagging is evident the usual procedure is to inject rigidity foam into the affected area to increase strength. This process is not cheap however and should be carried out by a professional, if it appears the used caravan that you are looking at has faulty floors, walk away.
The chassis and hitch mechanism should probably have been checked over already but pay particular attention to the easy movement of the mechanism. Ensure that lubrication is evident and the rubber gaiter that lies between the push bar and A-frame is in good condition. Checking that the chassis of the caravan is in no way bent or damaged, it is the skeleton of the outfit and as such should be sturdy.
By following this checklist you should be able to find a used caravan to suit your purposes. There are plenty of good caravans out there and finding one is only a matter of time. With a little savvy and this advice, years of caravanning pleasure should only be a short drive away. Travel expert Thomas Pretty looks into factors for consideration when looking at a used caravan for first time buyers. Syndication Source: ThoughtSearch.com Continue reading
Does Your Vehicle Have Smoke Damage From Exhaust Fumes
Author: Aydan Corkern Title: Does Your Vehicle Have Smoke Damage From Exhaust Fumes Article: Have you ever been driving somewhere only to end up sitting in a traffic jam? If you have, then have you ever been stuck sitting by a car that is sending out smoke signals. This smoke can seep into your car causing smoke damage to it. This smoke can seep into the insulation of your air conditioning unit under the hood or into the carpets on the inside. It can even seep into the cushions of your seats. This smoke can make your car smell awful so that you will have to take it to a professional cleaning service to remove this smoke smell and smoke residue.
We do buy many big expensive things in our lives and the buying a nice car is one of them. We want to make sure that it stays looking and smelling like new. Exhaust make will make make the fibers of your seats stink not to mention it will cause the color of your paint to become dull. It will settle on the metal there and can cause corrosion. Exhaust smoke can make this vehicle of yours look old before its time. That smoke coming from this other car can do damage to you as well. When you live in a city and your car is exposed to the bad exhaust from trucks and other vehicles, the smoke damage and smell can really mount up.
If this happens to you from your own car or from other car this damage will end up the same. You will need to go find a professional smoke remediation company that also works with vehicles that can remove or fix your car. They will take this car to their place of work and clean this car from front to back. From the underneath to the top of your hood. If the damage is small, they can have it done in no time. If this damage is really bad, it might take them a while longer.
Having your car cleaned regularly on the inside and outside can help reduce the build-up of exhaust residue and smell. Letting it go too long with shampooing the carpets and cleaning the rest, can result in some permanent staining and make the smell harder to get out. Those who live in a more rural setting might not experience these kinds of smoke and exhaust problems with their vehicles nearly as often as someone who lives in an urban area. If you must have your car cleaned because of this kind of damage, check with your vehicle insurance company to see if the smoke damage might be covered.
