2009 is set to be a big year for new production cars – Mercedes vehicles bring out their first luxury sports car in Hong Kong since the split from McLaren, for muscle car-lovers there is a new edition of the Chevy Camaro, and even the lower-end of the car market will get a shake up with a new model from Hyundai These cars have both the die-hard legions of fans, and the adrenaline-charged specs to vault them into the record books, and keep them there We look at some of the best new releases for Hong Kong’s luxury car market in 2009
Perhaps the most exciting addition to the lineup for 2009 is the first Mercedes vehicle to be made since the split from the McLaren partnership – the Mercedes SL65 AMG Black series This is set to be Mercedes most powerful production car ever – there will only be 175 of these released, and Hong Kong luxury car dealers will be able to import them from the States for their customers There is a double turbocharged 6L V12 under the hood, which outputs 661hp and a whopping 738 pounds/feet of torque This vehicle is an indirect replacement for the McLaren SLR coupe, but is priced over $100,000 less than the SLR
There will be shakeups in all areas of the car market, with a new Hyundai Genesis Coupe starting from just US$22,000 The styling of the new Hyundai is obviously more family oriented than new sports cars available in Hong Kong, but still has a modern look The base model carries a 210hp, 2L turbocharged engine The base model has a four cylinder, but you can upgrade to a V6 for an extra US$3,000 This V6 will be the least expensive 300hp coupe in the world
The 2010 version of Chevy’s Camaro is causing waves in auto circles all over the globe, with some reviewers advising readers to sell their Mustang stocks now! This Hong Kong premium vehicle will be available for pre-order in October this year It will have a V6 initially, and a V8 version will follow in around December The engine in the base model is the same as in the Cadillac CTS – a DOHC, 3 6L V6 with 24 valves Variable valve timing and direct injection help improve performance and fuel efficiency, and new owners of this premium car in Hong Kong can expect 18/26mpg
Rumors have been flying about the new Mercedes vehicle in the CLK class, the CLK350 and 550 Mercedes has only recently released information about it, letting us know that the 350 will have a 268hp V6, while the 550 will have a 382hp V8 Both will have Mercedes’ signature 7 speed auto, and for those that like a little luxury along with their sports car, options like ventilated and heated seats, leather upholstery and a sport appearance package will be available – some extras come standard, and some must be ordered as options
