How To Find Affordable Sports Cars

Author : Gregg Hall

Claiming any one new sports car is the most affordable is a great way to start an endless debate Even if the list price of a particular sports car is less than its competitors, a forthcoming model is likely to sneak in at a few dollars less Meanwhile, limiting discussion to current models overlooks the truly most affordable sports cars-used models

Used sports cars can be bargains, particularly older models from less glamorous manufacturers Fiat sports cars from the 1970s, for instance, can often be found in running condition for under a few thousand dollars Any sports club car membership will undoubtedly boast scores of stories detailing great bargains found from individual owners on classic sports cars that are more coveted by collectors, too

If you are looking for a truly affordable sports car and are not intimidated by the prospect of the necessary maintenance issues inherent in older models, you should certainly seek out a used sports car

There are a variety of ways to find affordable sports cars The traditional method of looking through your local classified newspaper advertisements on a regular basis can still yield amazing values Sellers are motivated to part with their sports cars for a variety of reasons and sometimes their needs can be immediate This will encourage them to sell the car at prices sometimes well beneath market value Bargain hunting via classified advertisements is a great way to stumble upon a real bargain sports car

Mechanics can be a great source of bargain cars, too Often, customers will leave a sports car for work at an auto shop Once repairs are completed, they will be unable to afford the repair bill and may be forced to default the car to the shop Mechanics acquire liens on the vehicles and are able to offer them for sale Mechanics are experts in repairing vehicles and are primarily interested in maintaining cars-not in selling them A mechanic holding an abandoned vehicle still lacks payment for the work performed, too As such, these cars can often be purchased at bargain rates As an additional benefit, buying from a mechanic may indicate the car has had any known problems already repaired At the very least, you will have a great source of information about the car’s mechanical status-a benefit frequently missing from other bargain sources

Internet auctions also provide an outlet for sports car bargain-hunters The auction market is always tricky-sometimes a car may actually sell for far more than one would think it was actually worth In other cases, there may be a window of opportunity to snag a used sports car at an amazing price Poorly timed auctions or auctions that do not feature a highly sought after made or model of car can result in very low prices

Of course the bargain shopper needs to enter the market well informed Many seemingly great deals can really be busts for a buyer if they are not sufficiently educated However, affordable sports cars are out there on the market-one need only find them

Classified advertisements, repair shops and internet auctions are all great opportunities to find a sports car at a bargain price One need not resign themselves to the prospect of paying top dollar for a sports car By choosing less popular models, or simply by hunting out great deals, a prospective buyer can save literally thousands of dollars on their sports car purchase

Arrest Warrants How Do Speed Traps Lead to Your Warrant

Author : Steve Gee

How do speed traps work and why do I have an arrest warrant?

Isn t technology wonderful Until recently, if the police wanted to catch you driving your car too fast then they would have to follow you in a police car for a while to match your speed then stop you and write you out a ticket You knew what was happening back then There was no mistaking that you had just picked up a speed violation and you had to do something about it because a cop has just told you to

Those were the days but it s all different now You can pick up speeding tickets and other violations while you are driving without even being aware that you were doing anything wrong let alone getting caught doing it You only have to drive past a police radar speed trap a little too fast and that s enough to trigger a citation You will get it in the mail a few days or even weeks later If you ignore the letter or it gets lost in the mail then it s likely that you ll end up with a warrant for your arrest

Police radar speed traps can be detected

Have you ever stood at the side of a rail track when a train is approaching and noticed that the sound the train makes changes in pitch as it gets closer to you then further away again This is called the doppler effect and the technique is used in radar speed traps to catch you exceeding the speed limit The difference is that radar uses radio waves instead of sound but the principle is the same

Radar speed guns send out beams of radio waves that tend to go in all directions not just directed at your vehicle The radio waves can be detected by installing a simple device in your car which can alert you to the fact that there is a radar speed trap in the area and give you time to slow down and avoid getting a ticket

Police Laser speed traps are harder to detect

Your radar detector won t be any help to you against the new breed of laser speed guns which are fast replacing the old radar gun trap Laser speed detector guns send out a narrow beam of light which shines on your car and the equipment actually measures the time that it takes the light beam to hit your car and return to the gun This is a very accurate way of measuring speed and it s also very difficult to detect one in operation because there is only one beam of light to detect

There are no electronic counter measures that I know of that can effectively give you an early warning of a laser speed trap This means that you could get a letter in the mail unexpectedly at almost any time Don t ignore it when it comes because it could turn into an arrest warrant if you do

What can you do about this new technology?

Well you could try obeying the law and keeping your speed under the limit at all times This is easier said than done of course First you have to make sure that you know what the speed limit is at all times then you have to keep your speed under it all the time It only takes one small mistake on your part and you ve just picked up a ticket

If you can t avoid getting caught in a police speed trap then you must make sure that you pay the fine or protest your innocence as soon as possible Yes the police do make mistakes so it s worth making sure that you were actually there when they say you were If for some reason the fine turns into a warrant then you can takes steps to find out about it as soon as possible and deal with it before you get arrested

Use new technology to find out about warrants before the cops come to arrest you

It s now possible to search the entire country to find out if you ve got an arrest warrant Only recently has new Internet technology been available to enable you to do this It s so simple that you can do a comprehensive search in much less than 10 minutes This means that you can do it regularly to find out if you ve picked up any warrants because you never got the letter or you ve forgotten to pay the fine

It s becoming increasingly more difficult to avoid getting arrest warrants so make sure that you find out about them fast when they do pop up Once you ve found out that you have one, deal with it as soon as you can Speak to a lawyer to make sure that you do things the right way Trust me, this is a whole lot better than waiting until the cops come to arrest you

Check for arrest warrants now. You can do it in less than 10 minutes online. http://www.howdo-i.com/backgroundcheck/howdoicheckforarrestwarrants.php Did you know that there is more than one kind of arrest warrant? http://www.howdo-i.com/backgroundcheck/whatisanarrestwarrant.php

Vauxhall Zafira Now Why Didn t I Think of That

Author : Jon Barlow

Of course the most obvious answer to this question is "because you’re not a car designer dummy" Even if I was though I probably would have raised a cheer for the person who solved the age old automotive conundrum of how to transport a family and all their junk around in something smaller than a removal lorry and without the styling and handling characteristics that go with it

Before you say anything I realise that this was not the greatest problem that mankind has faced and we need to put things into perspective here but nonetheless the solution still required a stroke of genius

1999 was the year when Vauxhall introduced the Zafira to a rapturous audience It reinvented family motoring and caused the demise of the trusty estate car or at the very least gave it an identity crisis Vauxhall was unrepentant however and the near decade that has elapsed since its launch the Zafira is still being purchased in large numbers and is cherished throughout this land almost as much as the family pet

It would be a lie to say that the seven seat Zafira can match the very latest compact MPVs for steering feel or agility, but the handling is safe and predictable Grip levels are strong and body lean through bends isn t excessive However, at times the suspension damping doesn t cope well over rough surfaces and it lacks control under hard cornering but what do you expect in an MPV? The brakes are strong with very short stopping distances especially at low speed The aircraft style handbrake is neat although a bit fiddly at first

Renault could claim that they were first into the compact MPV sector with the Scenic but it is the seven seat Zafira that undoubtedly transformed it and has inspired such competition as the Grand Scenic, VW Touran, Toyota Verso and Mazda 5 Some manufacturers only offer five seat versions of their Zafira rival, but Vauxhall has optimised the Zafira in seven seat form, for those who just want five seats it offers the Meriva instead The line up of models is huge and in addition there are special editions too, which change periodically More recently Vauxhall has taken the model more up market with an Elite trim

The Zafira offers a wide range of petrol and diesel engines but its weight means that the smaller less powerful units do sometimes struggle a bit The Zafira is fairly popular as a fleet vehicle so Vauxhall offers a 1 9 litre diesel but retail customers are accounted for as well with more affordable petrol engines This is fortunate, as the Zafira sometimes looks a little expensive compared to some rivals, particularly when you consider standard equipment levels that could be more generous

The latest Zafira, with its rakish headlights and smoother lines, is undoubtedly a better looking car than the original The interior is also stylish and constructed from quality materials The driving position is high and reassuring whilst head, shoulder and knee room are ample and the seats are comfortable

The Flex7 folding seat system is still holding up well and by folding the seats flat you can enhance the already capacious boot considerably The smaller engined petrol and diesel Zafiras really impress for fuel economy and retained values are still surprisingly good considering how many used Zafiras are available on the market, servicing costs and intervals are very competitive too as a result of the enviable reliability record of the car

All in all the Zafira shapes up well and whilst still being ubiquitous in numbers who would choose to be different just for the sake of it? Besides if you still want to cling on to your young carefree days where your right foot seemingly solved all of life’s problems then there’s always the Zafira VXR available at a Vauxhall dealer near you

The Zafira has been a big seller for Vauxhall Jon Barlow looks at why http://www.westend-group.co.uk/new-vauxhall/vauxhall-zafira.shtml

Help What are Carbon Fiber Hoods

Author : kenneth kwan

The military and aerospace industries have made great use of the material, carbon fiber for more than 5 decades It is only now rising in popularity in the vehicle manufacturing world because of how favorably carbon fiber hoods have been received People exclaim joy over the durability and light-weight feel of carbon fiber hoods which only 2 reasons why they are preferable versus hoods made of other materials

So how exactly is the carbon fiber for the renowned carbon fiber hoods made? One has a choice of two methodologies to make carbon fiber One method is called the “wet lay-up” procedure Two positives about this particular method is that is requires less labor than the other one and less monies to fund the entire project What happens is, a mold is filled with dry fibers laid across it before resin tops it all off The amount of resin used is dependent on the maker’s preference for thickness

Sounds pretty easy right? Not really If the fibers are too full of resin, the carbon fiber produced will be heavier and its strength and stiffness is not at its peak The “wet lay-up” process yields a lot of deformed products because some sections will have too much resin while others may lack the correct amount

The other method usually produces good products It is titled the “pre-impregnated lay up” process The last 2 decades have seen the development and continual efforts towards perfection of this procedure Usually, the outcome of “pre-impregnated” carbon fiber is 20% to 30% better in strength than the carbon fiber yielded from the “wet” process

The resin-loaded fibers are rolled up and then frozen so that the curing process is ceased Afterwards, the rolls are sealed in a vacuum bag compaction or a vacuum bag compaction plus an auto clave Without the autoclave, the materials are shoved into an oven With the autoclave, a pressure cooker is used in the place of an oven

Carbon fiber received notice from the car world during the 1970s the reason for this is because automobile producers want to make products which are eco-system friendly and cars which are more fuel-efficient Carbon fiber only costs $5-$10 and so, it is cost-efficient enough so that more experiments can be conducted to deduce which car parts can utilize this specific material Car-enthusiasts thrill in buying carbon fiber car parts, such as the famous carbon fiber hoods, because carbon fiber parts are aesthetically gorgeous Also, from a practical point of view, carbon fiber is much more durable than steel or aluminum

Nowadays, carbon fiber isn’t only seen on military or aerospace equipment Considering the current price of carbon fiber, more and more industries, especially the automobile one, are taking notice of carbon fiber and are increasing efforts to put it to use Check out your online auto parts dealer for more information on the latest styles for your car

What Are Some Of The Hazards Of Hybrids

Author : Gregg Hall

With all of the talk of hybrid vehicles many people are singing their praises about these lightweight, fuel-efficient cars But are there hazards to driving a hybrid? Is there really anything to worry about? Let’s take a closer look at potential hybrid hazards

One of the biggest concerns often talked about when it comes to hybrid vehicles has to do with those personnel responding to accidents involving a hybrid Many traditional looking cars such as the Honda Accord and Ford Escape are being built with hybrid engines and rescuers might experience some difficulty at the scene of an accident identifying one as such The reason the identification is crucial is that as compared to conventional gas powered cars, hybrid vehicles have a tremendous amount of electricity coursing through them and thus could cause injury to rescuers and further injury to drivers already hurt by the crash Many people believe that the solution to this problem is for automakers to affix a label on the driver’s side visor stating that it is a hybrid vehicle, equip with all the features that this kind of car entails

New hybrids are bursting onto the market at an increasing rate and therefore all first responders (including the police, fire department and paramedics) need to be taught about ways in which hybrid cars differ from more traditional non-hybrid models Lack of education could result in safety measures being compromised and injuries (life threatening or otherwise) taking place To use the battery in a hybrid to illustrate the point, in some hybrid models the battery carries with it a charge of up to 500 volts and is powered both by gasoline and electricity Compare this with the voltage of a typical non-hybrid car, which is in the area of 12 volts First responders need to be taught where the battery is located in a hybrid car and how to cut the cables without risking being electrocuted by the high voltage that the battery puts out This is particularly important when machinery such as the Jaws of Life is required to physically remove a passenger in imminent danger from a car It cannot be emphasized enough, without proper training, more serious injury, and even death, could result

This problem is being addressed by manufacturers of hybrids with Honda and Toyota going to the front of the line on safety procedures Hybrid cars are being suited with color codes so first responders can easily comprehend the flow of electricity in the car Honda hybrids use the color bright orange to designate the high-voltage power line which helps reduce safety risks for rescuers responding to calls

Concerns about hybrid hazards have led Honda and Toyota to create their own individual safety guides for rescue personnel Every fire department in the United States received a copy of these guides to be made available for their staff to educate themselves Toyota has just completed new guides for its latest hybrid vehicles, the Highlander and Lexus These guides can easily be read online by any member of the public, whether they are emergency workers or not

In South Florida, with its many canals, many people have expressed concerns about the hybrid hazards involved in water submersion, as these kinds of accidents are common in this area of the state Manufacturers of hybrid vehicles say that the only thing emergency personnel need to keep in mind in regard to safety issues is to remember to make sure the car’s ignition is turned off once it is out of the water

Speaking of the car being turned off, that is another issue for hot debate when it comes to talk of hybrid hazards Hybrid cars are made differently than traditional gas powered vehicles in that it is not always easy to tell if they are off or still running Most traditional cars one need only feel the hood of the car to make a correct determination but hybrids can be tricky- a hybrid can appear to be turned off when in actual fact it is in silent electric mode and very able to plow over an unsuspecting person if any movement or pressure is applied to the accelerator One possible solution to this serious hazard put forth by the fire department in Texas is to place chocks under the wheels if it is not known whether the car’s ignition is still on or not

Some Of The Reasons You Should Consider Alloy Wheels For Your Car

Author : Gregg Hall

People who are serious about their cars have known for a long time that the lusterless, cookie-cutter wheels that come in stock can easily be replaced with a set of snazzy alloy rims, which will improve a car’s handling and appearance So, they have done so, trading in their stock rims for attractive allow wheels, setting themselves apart from the endless stream of other cars and getting a more comfortable ride in the process Perhaps it’s time you did the same

Making the most of consumer demand, wheel makers have started to adapt their product so that it meets the demands of all consumers, many of whom demand bigger, shinier rims to put on the SUV they drive around the city in, or the tiny coupes they dart back and forth to work in, or even to add a special flair to their vehicle or motorcycle These large diameter, high shine finish wheels appeal to a wide variety of consumers

Despite their glossy shine and attractive look, equipping a car with alloy wheels can present a set of problems If you buy a set of rims from a European wheel manufacturer, such as Volvo, or a set of multi-piece wheels, such as BBS, your wheels may be less sturdy than the basic, bland steel ones that came as stock with your car They might be easily bent out of shape, marred by a sidewalk, or otherwise damaged And when they are, you will be presented with the question of whether or not you need to purchase an entire new set

Replacement can add up to be a costly venture when you do it through one of your local dealer of performance wheels, up to several hundreds of dollars or more, and can take up to a week or more This depends of course on the severity of the damage that the wheels have sustained In severe cases you might have to debate whether it is better to replace or repair your wheels

The question of whether to repair or to replace is often answered by that great spirit of inspiration, cost Since it is often the case that a replacement tire can be extremely expensive (up to $2,000 dollars or more for some performance wheels), people who did not want to spend an arm and a leg started asking if their technician could bend their damaged wheel back into shape So was born the rim repair industry

As long as a wheel repair technician can be sure that a tire can safely be reshaped, which is to say, as long as a wheel can drive safely after it has been reshaped, then simple repair is a more economical option for damaged alloy wheels If, however, your wheels have been totaled, the tire technicians at Metro Wheels will not risk you or your passengers’ lives You will have to purchase replacement wheels if there is any risk involved in repair

A Look At Different Segments Of The Auto Parts Industry

Author : Gregg Hall

Auto body parts are a huge industry, since pretty much all car owners need them at least once in their lives Cars that are damaged by accidents or wear and tear can leave owners trying to find the parts to replace them Some parts such as rear view mirrors or steering wheels may seem easy to replace, but walking into one of the many stores that carry the parts will quickly change that opinion There are so many to choose from and the price ranges vary so much, that you may not know which is the best one to get

The sale of these parts are not limited to people who have had an accident or just want a nicer looking car seat There are many hobbyists who rebuild cars from scratch, either to keep for themselves or to sell newly restored classic cars at a big profit Trying to find parts for the older model cars is not easy unless you know where to look

There are several options available when looking for auto body parts One option of course is to go to a store that sells them, where you can find a huge array to select from Another option is to go to a car dealer that sells the particular make of the car that you are trying to repair A third option is to go to an auto salvage yard

Auto salvage yards carry parts that you may not be able to get elsewhere and you can save a bundle by buying them there These parts are salvaged from junked cars and since many of the cars are older models, their usually hard to replace parts are readily available in the salvage yards People who restore cars want to get the original parts that were intended for them, right down to the ashtrays and car antennae These are the people who most frequently come to auto salvage yards after experience has taught them that this is where they have the best chance to find the part that they want These yards also have newer model cars that have been totaled in accidents, so you have a good chance of finding parts for these types of cars as well You can get seats, mirrors, tires, and engine parts, such as starters or even belts You can also get fenders, bumpers, side panels, hoods or any other part that you might need at a fraction of the cost that you would pay by purchasing them new

Another way to get discount auto parts is from what’s known as the after market These are parts that are made by manufacturers other than the original company, but are designed to fit a specific car For example, if you own a Chevy and need a particular part, you can go to the aftermarket and get one without having to pay the expense of a part made by Chevrolet

Know Your Gasoline Powered Small Engine

Author : Ben Anton

From large industries to the average homeowner, gasoline powered small engines are widely used to complete major and minor tasks all over the world Lawn mowers, air compressors and pumps are among the most the popular equipment that utilizes this machinery They also power ATVs, motorcycles, scooters and certain light aircraft For household mechanics, knowing the basics of a gasoline powered engine can help better maintain your equipment and help you trouble shoot potential issues that may arise

What is a Gasoline Powered Small Engine?

These systems are also known as an internal combustion engine To run these engines, a spark created when the ignition is switched on creates an explosion as it comes into contact with the gasoline in the combustion chamber Gasoline is a slow burning combustible liquid that becomes explosive when it mixes with air This explosion is what gives the engine its power There are a number of parts within these engines that make this entire process work efficiently

Small Engine Components

1 Fuel System

The fuel system is made up of several other components The fuel tank stores the gasoline until it enters the carburetor A fuel pump removes the gasoline through a fuel line into the carburetor The carburetor then mixes the required volume of air and gas in proper proportion to create the necessary energy Inside the carburetor, a small filter collects small particles of dirt and sediment that may clog or dirty the fuel

A primer is used to inject a small amount of extra gasoline into the carburetor to create a higher fuel intensity and stronger spark This is usually used when weather conditions are cold or the small engine vehicle has been sitting for a long period of time

2 The Ignition System

Combustion cannot take place if the spark needed to create the condition is not ignited The ignition produces a high voltage spark that sets off the combustion needed to start the engine A battery is used to activate this and a spark plug provides the catalyst in which current can flow

3 The Cylinder Block

Combustion takes place in the cylinder block Within the combustion chamber, the heat released by the chemical reaction creates a high pressured gas environment As this pressure force is pushed to the pistons of the engine, it causes the crankshaft to rotate

4 The Cooling System

Because of the large amount of pressure and fuel reactions, gasoline small engines produce a large amount of heat To keep them running efficiently, a cooling system must be in place These engines are usually cooled using metal fins that push cool air across the system Bearings are also used to bring down the amount of friction on the engine, thus reducing the amount of heat generated when it is running Additionally, regular maintenance that includes oiling and cleaning filters will keep the engine heat down and the machine’s efficiency up

There is a lot more that can be learned about the inner workings of a gasoline powered small engine However, the basic mechanics of these machines can be broken down to some basic fundamentals in vehicle engine construction What everyone should remember about small engines is this: Take the time to understand the basic workings of your lawn mower, golf cart, motorcycle, snow mobile or other small engine vehicle so that you can better maintain and prevent breakdowns in the future
