Why Wheel Alignment Is Such A Crucial Component In Maintaining Your Vehicle

Author : Gregg Hall

The most important aspect in maintaining the life of tire and to have a risk free journey is wheel alignment It is a process in which the wheels are set in an angle that it perpendicular to the ground surface and the wheels are parallel to each other This condition will improve the life of the tire and makes the car to travel straight when the steering wheel is left idle One should not confuse the concept of wheel balancing with wheel alignment

Wheel balancing is a method through which the wheels are properly mounted over the disk This imbalance can occur while replacing the tires after repair The condition can be easily felt in the steering while driving Similarly wheel alignment error can also be detected in the steering If your car moves forward straightly when the steering wheel is not touched, then the condition of alignment on the wheels is perfect If there is any fault then your car will go in a same direction either to the left or to the right This is applicable to all kinds of vehicles and not only the car

Other signs to detect the irregularity in wheel alignment are the damage to the tires and the brake shoes The thread of the tire will be damaged on the edges which will wear out immediately You can also see the lining metal in side the tire if the case is worst Camber and Caster angles are adjusted in order to make the alignment condition to the correct condition Wheel alignment depends on various measurements and even a variation in single concept will cause the improper wheel alignment

Steering center is a factor used in wheel alignment The concept behind this is the wheels are to be straight when the steering wheel is adjusted to straight condition This is a easy way to find improper alignment This occurs due to the difference in the caster and camber angles Four wheel alignments is a method of aligning the tires In this method the device is placed on the rear tire and the front wheels are aligned according to it The two wheel alignment will cost around 30 to 60 US $ The four wheel alignment will cost around 50 to 95 $ There are many latest techniques for wheel aligning and one should have a test drive after a wheel alignment in the vehicle This is because; sometimes the steering will get harder

Can You Afford Not To Buy A Used Car Instead Of A New One

Author : Thomas Pretty

Buying a used car is an ever more appealing option as the price of new cars seems to escalate further and further The choices out there are endless; do I want a fun car, a family car or simply a vehicle that will get from A to B? After these considerations there are the manufacturers to choose from, European, Japanese, Korean and even American Added to this there are the makes, Audi, BMW, Honda, Toyota Peugeot and Renault are all considerations that should be carefully debated when looking for a used car Unfortunately not all of us can afford to buy new and hence used is the only way to go

While we all want a car for different reasons your choice of manufacturer is vitally important AUDI, BMW and Mercedes must be consideration thanks to their exceptional quality, although in terms of price you may feel out of pocket If you want to find a cheaper used car, a Japanese model is usually advisable; in recent years they have taken a leaf from the German book and increased their reliability So whether looking for a sports car, a car to cart the family around or even a city car just for popping to the shops, read on

For those looking for a bit of speed and performance a small sports car can be considered a great solution Used prices for sports cars are usually far more affordable; three possible contenders are the Audi TT, the BMW Z4 or the Mercedes SLK While the TT may be bested by the performance of the SLK and the sheer quality of the BMW Z4 in terms of attractiveness it certainly comes out on top Entering the market in 1999 the car can be considered a revolution in styling that has been used by many car companies in the years since

If a sports car may be too small to suit the needs of you and your family it may be worth considering a larger SUV or people carrier such as the Audi Q7, the Renault Espace or the Volkswagen Toureg With seven seats, the Audi Q7 is a reasonably priced used car that can provide a travel solution for all of the family, and even the dog The SUV market is currently jam-packed with models so the choices can be seen as endless, while the Audi Q7 may be slightly expensive compared to some of the competition, it can still be considered a worthwhile buy thanks to its luxurious feel

As fuel prices seem to increase unabated a smaller used car may be the ideal solution, consider the Peugeot 206, the Volkswagen Golf or the Audi A3 These little run-arounds make the perfect city car and still have enough room to cater for the small family Fuel efficiency is a major concern so if you can afford not to have the space of a large car, these smaller options are perfect way to make car travel more affordable

Whatever your choice, buying a used car is a process that requires much research and effort Firstly you must understand your travel needs and find a car that suits them After this process is complete is when the real work begins If buying used you will need to find a car that is of high quality and has had no major problems in its lifetime Naturally a full log book is a prerequisite to purchase as without this knowledge you will not be able to determine how the car was serviced or if any major work has been undertaken Buying used can be a minefield but with a conscientious approach it is possible to find the right car in no time

Motor industry expert Thomas Pretty looks into how a used Audi can be deemed a bargain in comparison to a new one.

How Japanese Automakers Are Keeping The Big Three On Their Toes

Author : Gregg Hall

There is a great deal of talk today about the impact that developed countries are having upon the world and the consensus is that it is not a positive impact Developed countries have a large production of greenhouse gases due to factory production as well as what we consume in our everyday lives There has been talk within many different sectors of the government and the public about how people need to try and make a difference in whatever way they can With this in mind, hybrids have come to be seen as more and more popular so that people can both save money and make an impact in their own way on the greenhouse gases within the country they live in

Toyota and Honda led the revolution in the development of hybrid cars and more and more car manufacturers are joining the search There are more and more kinds of cars being developed within the hybrid market such as hybrid sports cars and hybrid SUVs This allows anyone who wants a new vehicle to be able to buy a hybrid while not sacrificing on what they are looking for in a new vehicle

To give you an idea of some of the developments in the 2007 hybrids, Toyota has created a Camry hybrid This is the third of their hybrid vehicles and purchasing the Camry hybrid will not force you to skimp on performance in any matter You receive a six cylinder engine with the fuel savings in place of a four-cylinder engine Not to be outdone though, Honda has also made sure that it has both its hybrid Civic as well as its hybrid Accord Both of these hybrids give you more fuel savings while giving you all the amenities you expect from a Honda car The Accord hybrid gives a V-6 engine with 253 hp The Civic hybrid was developed to such a great degree that it received the Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission vehicle rating

For those of you not familiar with what this means, if you own the Civic hybrid, you will not increase the number of air pollutants when you are out driving You are having a neutral impact upon the environment while continuing to live your daily life Not to be outdone, General Motors has also made sure to create a strong hybrid vehicle, the Aura hybrid This was created to be in direct competition with the Toyota Camry hybrid and the Honda Accord hybrid It also has a V-6 engine and it and it has been said that you will save 20% more fuel over the gasoline powered equivalent general General Motors vehicle

Hopefully that is giving you an idea of some of the developments with in the hybrid car market More and more attention is being placed upon this particular segment of the market so more and more car offerings are being created by the manufacturers to hit this great business opportunity

The Push Toward The Electric Car

Author : Everette Jamison

Television news programs, newspapers, and magazines constantly extol the advantages of driving a battery-powered automobile The coverage is having an effect on the auto buying public Last year, when gas prices skyrocketed, motorists flocked to their dealerships to inspect the latest electric vehicles (EVs)

But, all is not as it seems Even as consumer polls suggest that the public has made a mass migration to EVs, our highways and city streets tell a markedly different story Battery-powered cars are seldom seen What’s more, automakers and dealerships report that over 95% of sales are comprised of cars with gas (and sometimes, diesel) engines

In this article, I’ll explain the obstacles that EVs must overcome in order to dominate our highways I’ll also describe one sector of the auto industry that will likely remain a permanent fixture of our culture

The High Price Of Going Electric

Hybrids are priced higher than their gas-powered brethren Recent polls organized by J D Power and Associates suggest that nearly half of motorists would be willing to absorb a higher price if the difference was only a few thousand dollars Unfortunately, the difference is often much greater

Families that are considering larger vehicles often have to choose between a gas-powered engine or a hybrid costing $15,000 more Further, those people who need extra towing capacity are often confronted with the same dilemma

Parts And Maintenance Costs

Mechanics report that automobiles with battery-powered engines are more complicated than conventional vehicles Aside from oil changes and other low-maintenance jobs, they’re harder to work on Also, not only do EVs require specialized training to fix, but the parts are often more expensive to replace

During the first few years of ownership, when the vehicle is fully covered by a warranty, these issues are less relevant However, auto parts fail over time due to wear and tear Down the road, replacing those parts – not to mention the labor involved – can carry a hefty price

The Death Of The Muscle Car?

Electric vehicles are fuel-efficient and more friendly to the environment However, it’s unlikely their engines will ever be able to match the raw power and intensity of a muscle car Automobile enthusiasts take great pride in their performance cars Their engines may guzzle fuel, but the sound and sensation of their roar are a time-honored part of our automotive culture They will not be easily replaced by a fuel-efficient electric engine

There is no doubt that the car-buying public is becoming more open to the idea of driving an electric-powered vehicle The cost advantages and environmental friendliness of EVs make our eventual adoption of them a forgone conclusion But, there are obstacles to overcome Until prices come down further, and parts and maintenance costs level, drivers will continue voting with their dollars for gas-powered vehicles

An Overview of Essential Automotive Tools

Author : Peter Garant

There are several types of automotive tools available, and if you are in the business of fixing cards, or just want to make sure that you have the utilities necessary to keep your car in shape, you need to know which are the most important

It should be emphasized that there is no such thing as an all in one automotive tool; in almost all cases, every potential problem can be fixed by a particular tool

Replacing Car Parts

With the Internet it has become easier than ever to find the parts necessary to replace a defective part Of course, if the particular part is complex, or if the vehicle is imported, it will take a while before it can be replaced, especially if it has to be shipped from another country

Automotive Tool Kits

Of course, it is important that if there is something wrong with the car you should consult a qualified mechanic However, for simpler problems that you can fix on your own, it pays to have a few handy tools with you

These automotive tools are not that expensive; basically all you’ll need are wrenches, several types of screws, pliers, pocket knives, jumper cables, torque wrenches, spare fuses, battery terminal brush, road flares, gloves, flashlights duct tapes, a reflective vest, oil and some spare tires of course Of course, do not forget the car jacks Of course, other essentials are medical kits and cell phones

If you are going out on a long trip, you just need a good sized bag to put all those tools in Put them in the back of the trunk Finally, you should remember that although these automotive tools are easy to find anywhere, you should purchase the best that your money can afford

The same can be said if you are in the car or vehicle repair business Do not scrimp on the quality of the tools, because whatever you save on the cost of the tools will come out when customers start complaining of inefficient or poor service

Some more tools you may want to invest in are the following:

Fuel injector pulse testers / fuel injection probes: these are the utilities that are used to determine the state of the fuel in the vehicle There are several fuel saver kits available, and these two utilities can help monitor their efficiency

Brake bleeders / brake bleeder vacuums: few things are more important than the brakes of a car; before using brake bleeders, you need to make sure that they are of the proper size for the vehicle

Suction cups: this nifty tool is utilized by car mechanics as a device to keep a door window in its place as they work on specific parts Besides suction cups, other automotive tools that will be useful for repair work are locking strip tools and knives

When it comes to cars, it’s always best to be prepared You can have it checked out every time, but you can never tell when it will act up on your next cross country trip, so it’s best to have the essential automotive tools with you

History of the Hybrid Car

Author : John Rhodes

In this article I will give you the history of the hybrid car First, I talk about steam power Second, I discuss electric power for hybrid vehicles Third, I discuss the Porsche hybrid Fourth, I discuss mass production And lastly, I discuss hybrid cars and hybrid trucks in relation to gasoline powered cars

It’s pretty interesting how people are becoming more aware of their environment nowadays This can be seen on the increasing amount of environment friendly products in the market these days Additionally, they’ve become aware of the various factors that contribute to the threatening pollution in the environment Hence, companies started developing less toxic emitting products that also do well to the environment and one of the most prominent of this kind would be hybrid cars As starter, here’s the history of the hybrid car

It’s All About Steam

The concept of creating environment friendly or alternatively powered vehicles started with the idea of vehicles running with the use of steam Between 1665 to1885 a couple of ideas regarding steam powered vehicles were noted First off would be astronomer and Flemish Jesuit priest Ferdinand Verbiest, who had plans for a small four wheeled unmanned steam car Next would be Nicholas Cugnot who built a carriage powered by steam that was able to run for 6 miles/hour Lastly would be Goldsworthy Gurney who was able to create a steam car that could run an 85 mile journey in just 10 hours

Then Came Electricity

It was also quite early when people started conceptualizing and later on creating electricity powered cars It was in 1839 when Scotsman Robert Anderson first created an electrically powered vehicle Then, significant development was noted during the late 1800′s and early 1900′s In fact, it was during this time when a lot of companies started making use of electricity to power their vehicles

Electric Cabs

Additionally electrically powered cabs became prominent during the 1897, because this is when the London Electric Cab Company started their regular service by the use of cars which were made by Walter Bersey It was called the Bersey Cab This cab uses a 40 cell battery with a 3 HP electric motor People were able to drive it 50 miles in between charges

The First Porsche Hybrid

It was during 1898 when Dr Ferdinand Porsche was able to build his very first car, which was called Lohner Electric Chaise This car was also 1st front wheel drive Then, the second car that he made was a hybrid Here, he used an internal combustion engine so that the car’s generator would spin In effect, it produced power to be used by electric motors, which could be found on the wheel hubs Just using batteries, the car was able to travel about 40 miles

Going Large Scale

In the past, manufacturers weren’t really able to create as much cars as they wanted This is because they weren’t equipped with the right tools and machines to do so However, as technology developed, car companies were able to make big batches of production

In fact, by 1900, American car companies were able to create made 936 gasoline, 1,575 electric 1,681 steam car People were also becoming more open with the use of electric cars This can be seen on a poll which was conducted during the 1st National Automobile Show, where patrons actually favored electric cars for their 1st choice, while steam cars placed second on a very close fight

During the first couple of years in the 20th century, thousands of hybrid and electric cars were actually created However, when Henry Ford’s car line arrived along with the start of self starting gas engines, this signalled the rapid decline of hybrid cars during 1920

Fuelled Cars Taking The Limelight

When fuelled cars were introduced, this became a very significant period of time for hybrid cars Simply because people started opting for gasoline fuelled cars than those that were hybrids Additionally, car manufacturing companies, like Ford also created lines of gas fuelled automobiles that were quite cheap to buy Since these cars were cheap, people started buying the cheap gas cars than those more expensive hybrid cars

Hence, gas fuelled cars took the limelight for quite some time In fact, up to now, gas fuelled vehicles are still on the spot light

However, hybrid cars were still somewhere in the backdrop Sadly, only those that were creating cars for themselves or those that stayed in rural areas and had the means to create their own cars still hold on to this kind of vehicle

Nevertheless, people have become aware of the benefits of hybrids nowadays Hence, they are coming back into the picture Ironically, most people think that such cars were only invented recently However the colourful history of the hybrid car simply shows that it started quite early and was only overshadowed by gas fuelled cars due to convenience and money matters

John S. Rhodes talks more about the history of the hybrid car at Hybrid Cars, Hybrid Trucks and Hybrid Vans found at http://HybridCarsTrucksVans.com He also discusses hybrid motorcycles and hybrid minivans at that site, offering videos and advice on hybrid batteries and hybrid rental vehicles.

Car Exhausts Vital Parts for Your Car

Author : kenneth kwan

Exhausts are the most vital parts of your car and extremely important to you, your passengers, and to the environment It is a complete catastrophe when the exhaust system does not work properly Your car will become extremely loud and there is a chance of becoming very sick from the gas emissions Therefore, it is very important to become educated about you car’s exhausts

Exhausts are within your car made up of parts where gases are either burned or steamed They are released from a group of pipes that is attached to the catalytic converter and a silencer The part that you can see at the end of your car sticking out is the tail pipe The silencer is connected to the tail pipe which is made of metal and small holes These holes aid in lowering the pressure The catalytic converter is joined to the silencer to complete the system

To lower the amount of noise, the silencer does most of the work The sound waves mirror on the tubes so that the waves are eliminated The pipes are used to channel the exhaust fumes into the back of the car The manifold creates a funnel like affect The engine cylinders push the gases into the manifold where they are let go at the front pipe

Exhausts are used for four main purposes The consumption of fuel is greatly enhanced The engine’s performance gets better The fumes are released through the back of the car away from the passengers Ultimately, the noise is eliminated as well Therefore, the main goals of the exhaust system are vital to aid in the maintenance of your vehicle

The exhaust system lasts for various periods of time depending on how long you use it and how far you travel Those cars that are used for more so shorter travels tend to corrode more easily than cars that are used for longer trips However, if it fails, it will normally do so during a routine MOT test Toxic fumes would be leaving your car if the exhaust had unnecessary holes This fumes have dangerous chemicals including carbon monoxide that can restrain blood from getting oxygen flowing It can be very much fatal to you or your passengers

Exhausts should be maintained properly to secure your health as well as the health of your passengers With the proper parts, the exhaust system can benefit you and your car quite efficiently Therefore, periodical checks and preservation is vital to preserve your car Check out exhausts online for lower pricing

Things to do to Keep Your Car From Getting Stolen

Author : Mike Kay

So you have a new car And you have saved three years worth of your salary to buy it Or maybe you were approved a loan that obligates you with monthly payments for the next five years How would you feel if suddenly, your car gets stolen just like that? It would be a sinking, painful feeling for sure Well, there are ways to stop that from happening Here s what you can do to keep your car from getting stolen

1 Don t park in unfamiliar neighborhoods

If you re new in the place, it is best that you don t park there at all If you have to stop and ask for directions or anything, look for a gasoline station or convenience store to do that These places are equipped with surveillance cameras so thieves are not likely to hang around there too much But just the same, you have to be very careful

2 Equip your car with an alarm system

While an alarm system would do nothing but squeal for all its worth, it could scare the hell out of a possible car thief At least, the people around him would know that he s not the owner of that car because the alarm wasn t switched off when he approached Hopefully, the thief will run away and leave your car alone

3 Never leave your car unlocked and running

Even if you intend to leave your car for half a minute, it is never a good practice to leave your car unattended, running, and unlocked You don t know if there s a car thief near you If your car is in this state, it would take the thief a quarter of a second to slide into the driver s seat, lock the car, drive away, and leave your running at your heels

4 Engrave your name somewhere on the more expensive parts of your car

While this might not always work, leaving some sort of a personal identification on your car may help you recognize it in the future You never know but your car stereo may be stolen Or it could be something as simple as the side mirrors of your car Thing is, leave some marks on your car so even if they re detached, you will still know that they re yours

5 Invest on a garage

You might never suspect any of your neighbors taking your car away But you will never know if somebody from ten cities away drops by the neighborhood with the sole intention of stealing a car in the middle of the night Cars parked on plain view are easier to steal during the night So don t waste your garage if you have one If you don t have a garage, build one And use it at all times

6 Don t hide second set of car keys somewhere in the car

Car thieves are intelligent people Don t underestimate them for a second It s bad practice to put a second set of car keys under the skirt of your car Somebody may chance upon it and leave you crying helplessly If it works for your house, don t do the same for your car
