Snowmobile Repair Seven Steps of Prep
Author : Ben Anton
Before you take your snowmobile out for a spin this winter season, it is important to make sure it is ready for what you have in store Some snowmobile owners recommend taking your machine in for service at the end of the season, rather when the season begins to make sure there are no long term effects from letting it sit for several months Forget to do that last April? Not to worry There are several things you can do to make sure your snowmobile works perfectly this winter
Step I: Perform a thorough visual inspection of your snowmobile
Under good lighting, look over your machine for any loose parts, worn belts, an any other obvious stresses, buckling or cracks Consult your owner’s manual to find the lubrication points on your snowmobile and lubricate as indicated using a grease gun Just be sure to avoid adding too much grease during this process It should just be visible outside the joint
Step II: Add fresh fluids
If you had your snowmobile in storage with gas left in the tank, drain the tank before adding any fresh gasoline Any gasoline left in the tank will be of poor quality after several months of sitting and could make your snowmobile run inefficiently If necessary, add brake fluid; consult the lid of the master cylinder for the specific grade of fluid that should be used Coolant should also be added up to the cold mark
Step III: Unplug intakes
If you blocked off the air intake and exhaust apertures with a cloth or wooden plug to prevent rodents from nesting in your machine before storing your snowmobile at the end of last winter, make sure to remove these
Step IV: Replace sparkplugs
If you removed sparkplugs for cleaning or oiling at the end of last winter, be sure to replace these as well
Step V: Clean the carburetor
The main cause of engine failure when snowmobiles are first taken out is a dirty carburetor Cleaning it can be done with a can of carburetor cleaner and some basic tools Check the throttle and oil cables for signs of damage You should also check for cracks or damage in the fan or water pump belt, if your snowmobile has one
Step VI: Evaluate the skis
The skis on your machine must be in good condition to avoid major problems and potential danger If you have steel skis, make sure they don’t have any holes If you have plastic skis, check them for any deep gouges or cuts Runners should also be checked If a runner is slightly bent, it can be straightened by using a vice or by taking it in to a repair shop
Step VII: Clean your snowmobile
Wash off any debris such as salt, dirt or leaves from your machine using a garden hose and a bucket of soapy water The seat can be cleaned with upholstery cleaner
Your snowmobile can give you months of fun and enjoyment so long as it is in good working order Following these steps is a simple way to ensure your machine is ready for a great winter season

Interior and Exterior Review of the Honda Civic Hybrid
Author : Thomas Jones
It’s a norm for Honda to compliment their vehicles with sleek exterior designs, and this designative technique recurs in the Honda Civic Hybrid The very functional hybrid car implements power-side mirrors with built-in turn indicators and spoilers fitted onto the rear deck lid By this and with just the naked eye one could instantly recognize the stylish high-tech physicality The angles of the windshield are heightened and neatly integrated into the hood, providing higher modernistic appearance Aiding all of this the exterior look also intensifies a sporty and sassy appeal
This fuel-saving vehicle’s outer designs feature a more unique touch compared with that of the contemporary Civic sedan Equipped with exquisite allow wheels and an air dam integrated to the car’s frontal, body panels are located below the surface of the car’s exterior that are aerodynamically designed to assist in alleviating expected air-drag toward the vehicle
Evidently by its design the Honda Civic Hybrid along with its future successors eludes more than just subtlety The rear bumper, headlights and the grille show-off some sheer design quality The appearance of the headlights seem lowered in the Honda Civic Hybrid, similar to that on the Honda Accord and the front bumper contains various intake shafts along with sporty circular-edged corner spoilers providing it with a sleek-looking chassis
The vehicle looks vigorous, however other competing hybrids have less weight compared to their original platform counterparts, and opposed to the standard all-fuel Civic the Honda Civic Hybrid is heavier which renders this vehicle slightly slower
Interior Review
With the sheer quality design the Honda Civic Hybrid’s exterior utilizes more than just eye-candy as this car’ interior compliments the entire vehicle The standard features of the car’s interior are a complete jaw-dropper and especially owing to the fact that it maintains the functional feel of a sedan This provides complete comfort and a feeling of security and not to mention its main features which add up to its sleekness
Robust materials of a synthetic nature create the simple and functional interior and even though this may be, anyone would agree that the Honda Civic Hybrid eludes style and a futuristic nature even on the inside
When it comes to spaciousness the Honda Civic Hybrid succeeds in creating generous amounts of capacity needed by basic drivers, given that it is suitable for five persons and a driver to be simultaneously accommodated There is ample foot-space at the back due to a flat floor and there’s much room for luggage as well Complimenting the entire inner surface is the dashboard, integrated very well into the rest of the interior and this provides an elegant impression with a futuristic brilliance
Sitting in the driver’s seat your attention will surely be captured by the gauges which are stunningly back lit in blue The instrument cluster accommodates the gauges which include the speedometer, technometer and the gear selection indicators

CB Radios Are They A Distraction Or A Necessity
Author : Christine OKelly
The CB craze peaked with 13 million sales in 1977, which says the citizens band radio is back CB’s have had as many as two million sales annually in recent years and continue to be beloved by fans Sure, they’re many miles behind cell phones, but even cells won’t put the hammer down (accelerate) forever
In effect, the CB has flowed along behind the cell like a car cruising in an 18-wheelers’ air displacement while lingering in its “back door” (the area behind a vehicle) It’s been lagging, but it’s also been enlivened, now that gab between drivers is a given Authorities are asking if the increase use of CB’s can increase the likelihood of a semi accident
But with personal communication at an all-time high, people want options, and the trusty CB was bound to become some truckers’ good buddy once again For one thing, it’s as useful as mud flaps Though geared only to short distances, the two-way radio allows drivers to warn others of traffic hazards, semi accidents, and weather conditions, to seek nearby help in emergencies or to pass the time while keeping awake
What About Truck Driver Safety?
But what about what’s really important: driving safely while talking? Could talking on a CB increase the chances of a semi accident? It’s been established that cell phone usage is one of many distractions while driving that contributes to accidents What about CBs? Are they as distracting? And are they easier or harder to operate?
Distraction may depend on talk topics Car drivers on cells often converse with persons many miles away who have no relation to their primary task: safely driving a vehicle When they weave into another lane, they may be lost in thought
By contrast, truck drivers on CBs often converse with other truckers nearby — perhaps even within sight — while sharing tips on highway variables Such drivers are focused on the road in two ways: while looking ahead, and while talking about it Of course, that doesn’t mean truckers on CB’s don’t engage in distracting, non road-related jawing, too, which could lead to their own semi accident
Ease Of Use
As for operational distraction, a CB radio can be as easy to use as a cell phone A phone has virtually unlimited numbers to call and options such as texting A CB radio has 40 channels, and one — Channel 19 — is preferred for vehicles within range (Even with a large CB antenna, the range may not be more than four miles )
Using a CB once required a handheld microphone, but today, headsets enable users to speak with hands free Cell phones also can come with headsets, so the advantage is shared This feature alone will help to reduce semi accidents
Thus, while truckers on CBs aren’t inherently safer than drivers on cells, they can be So don’t write off the old CB radio just yet It’s more likely to put the hammer down than to pull the plug

Is Road Rage Getting Worse
Author : Brenda Williams
When I drive on the roadways in North Carolina, I am increasingly worried I am increasingly worried due to the poor judgment that people exercise while driving Why, just the other day, I was preparing to turn out of my apartment complex into the roadway to go to the store when I watched two cars almost become involved in an accident right in front of my face!
The one vehicle was preparing to make a right hand turn into my apartment complex However, this vehicle failed to indicate that he was doing so In the meantime, the vehicle behind the one that was turning had been following too closely and had to slam on his brakes to avoid hitting the person making the turn Looking at this as an outsider, who would you say is at fault? Well, I can tell you that having been a police officer, they are both at fault and would ve received tickets
First of all, whenever you make a turn off of or onto a roadway, you are ALWAYS supposed to indicate that you are doing so Secondly, whenever you are driving on a roadway behind someone, you are ALWAYS supposed to leave enough space between yourself and the driver in front of you Imagine what would happen if all of us followed the person in front of us closely? Well, I am ashamed to say that the vast majority of North Carolinians do just this! And with the population increasing in this area, it is only going to get worse It seems that no matter what time of day it is and no matter how far above the speed limit I am going, someone is always a second behind me It is sometimes not enough to be a defensive driver
In two instances, I have actually had to swerve out of my lane because staying in it would ve caused an accident due to the fact that the person behind me was following too close and couldn t break in time What is it going to take to get through to these drivers? Just the other day, I read a report about how a young boy (12 years of age) was killed when a woman blatantly ran a red light because she was distracted by a cell phone conversation Is this fair? Perhaps people should be required to re take driver s education classes if they get into an accident with another person Perhaps we need to change the way in which driver s education classes are taught?
Who are we going to point the blame at in the future when traffic accidents (ones which could ve been prevented) occur? It s going to reach a point where people are going to have to accept personal responsibility Maybe if you hadn t been following the other driver so closely, you would ve been able to stop Maybe if you had indicated that you were turning versus applying your brakes at the last moment, that person would ve slowed down to allow the turn Something needs to happen, otherwise, we will be looking at much more serious problems down the road (no pun intended)

Volkswagen How Late Is Fashionably Late
Author : Mark Creese
If I was a celebrity in the public eye, I’d make sure I gave the public what they wanted With the media scrutinising every move a famous person makes, it’s vital you don’t step out of line or rub anyone up the wrong way; else your career will be crushed quicker than you can say "swearing on live TV" Similarly with advertising and endorsements you don’t want to be turning up to your Volkswagen video shoot three hours late, or shaving your head the night before your hair product photo shoot
The above all seems obvious to me as I’m sure it does to you which is why I’m incredulous at the acts of some who have the world at their feet and seem determined to throw it all away Amy Winehouse is a towering example of what not to do with your god given talent Blessed with one of the most distinctive jazz voices, actually scrub that, one of the most distinctive voices of recent musical times; she consistently abuses it and herself with drugs, booze and cigarettes Yes rock and roll is all about over indulgence but I bet even Keith Richards whilst snorting his dad’s ashes thought "Amy’s a bit out of control"
Not content with abusing herself, Winehouse insists on insulting her die hard fans by going AWOL before gigs or showing up horrendously late and giving a shambolic at best performance Yet despite all this her album sales continue to soar, any tour dates are sold out and critics’ awards continue to flow With all this adulation, it’s easy to see why Amy Winehouse the singer is happy to play second fiddle to Amy Winehouse the drug addict – why change when the going is seemingly so good?
Now I don’t want to compare Volkswagen to Amy Winehouse but bear with me on this before you lynch me because I can see a similarity Volkswagen have a long distinguished history of producing cars that are well styled, reliable, good to drive and are cutting edge for the time Due to this impressive curriculum vitae, it’s easy to understand why so many are devoted Volkswagen customers who refuse to deviate from their beloved marque Yet even with this large customer base, Volkswagen take their sweet time in delivering the type of car their customers are crying out for – they don’t pander to the whims of their fans
Unlike our famous singer however (that’s the end of my Winehouse bashing I promise) Volkswagen have a perfectly good reason for why they don’t build a competitor for a new sector of the car market created by a rival car firm This reason is quite simply because they want to release a good car, rather than a rush job It happened with the Touran which was launched to compete with Renault’s Scenic – a full seven years after the French manufacturer and now Volkswagen have caught up with the Toyota RAV4 by launching their baby off roader the Tiguan, 13 years after their Japanese rival
Crucially though is the Tiguan worth the wait? In short let me summarise by saying their patient customers will be over the moon You see by arriving 13 years late to the party, Volkswagen have sized up what the competition has to offer and bettered them in nearly every department It’s chock full of cutting edge gadgetry as you’d expect from VW, with everything from a self parking system, to rear camera via a panoramic sunroof and finishing up with a 30 gigabite in car entertainment system
The car can also tow 2 5 tons – more than any other in its class and looks elegant in doing so It is essentially a shrunken 4×4 so curves are not the order of the day, but bold lines, and a mix of classy German styling and workmanlike ground clearance and roof bars blend well It is more than capable of doing the dirty jobs too, rather than just looking like it might want to one day Other than its impressive towing credentials, the taller front end coupled with all manner of hill climb and descent options make the Tiguan a go anywhere vehicle
If you, like the majority of 4×4 owners hate the sight of mud, the Tiguan is more than capable on the tarmac with little body roll and a clever four wheel drive system that sends more power to the wheels that need it the most With a range of engines on offer the most notable an environmentally friendly 2 litre turbo diesel which will keep the tree huggers happy, the Tiguan is an economical option without losing much in the way of performance
The interior is to the usual high standard you’d expect from Volkswagen and completes what is a very strong contender in the now cluttered small off roader market The wait then was definitely worth it, although quite whether 13 years of research has gone into the Tiguan is debatable Next time Volkswagen, please turn up on time
Mark Creese talks here about the VW Tiguan and wonders if its arrival was a little late http://www.alandayvw.co.uk/

Buying at Police Seized Car Auctions
Author : Deb Weidenhamer
Are you thinking about buying at a police seized car auction? This article is designed to provide you with the details on how police car auctions work and how they can get you the best deal on car Specifics may vary from auction to auction; however, the following information includes helpful and important guidelines from which everyone can benefit
Police car auctions are one of the best places to pick up a used car Many people think that the only vehicles available at police car auctions are actual police cars Well, they’re right – but only partially! In addition to surplus vehicles that have been used by the local police department, police car auctions may also feature cars that have been seized due to asset forfeiture
Asset forfeiture is the confiscation of assets (by the police department) that have been associated with a crime The assets can be vehicles, real estate or currency A federal law, passed in 1986, encourages police agencies to seize assets as a way to deny drug traffickers their profits
What does this mean for you? Well, eventually these seized vehicles end up at a police seized car auction, where you can pick up a nice used car for much less than you would a private party or a dealer! The auctioneer sells the car to the highest bidder and the proceeds go to the police agency
Police seized auto auctions take place in cities across the United States Some are held on a regular basis, as big city police departments seize many vehicles; others are held less frequently in the case of smaller police agencies In some states, cities or counties will collect all police seized vehicles and have one large annual auction
Regardless of the frequency of the police auto auction, you can usually find the event in the local newspaper or published on an online auction site that works with the police departments in your area The advertisement or listing will give the date, time and place of the auction as well as a list of the cars that will be auctioned off They may also give a date in which interested parties are invited to inspect the cars so that they can make decisions about what to buy and how much to spend
Inspecting cars being sold at a police seized car auction is a must! Cars sold at police seized auctions are sold “As-Is” with no warranty or guarantee In an “As-Is” auction, there is no warranty on the merchandise and the bidder is responsible for removal from the auction location This means that the bidder must rely on their own inspection and knowledge to make bidding decisions
In addition, even though the car was seized by a police department, the original financing company may still have a lien on the car When you buy a car at a police seized auction, you may have to make arrangements to pay off the finance company You can find out what the protocol is ahead of time by checking directly with the auction company
If you’re in the market for a good deal on a used car, it’s definitely worth your time to see what’s available at your next police seized car auction
Deb Weidenhamer is President of Auction Systems, the Southwest’s most active auction and appraisal company. Check out our website for the next scheduled police seized car auction or call 800-801-8880 for more information.
