If you have not replaced your windshield wipers in a while, now would be a good time Winter weather can really do a job on your wipers, and they are all you have to keep snow, dirt, and wintry mix off of your windshield Winter weather can really make driving difficult, so be sure that your wipers are in good working order While you are at it, go ahead and check your windshield washer fluid as well Make sure that you only use real washer fluid, not water Water will freeze in cold weather

Finally, there are a few other maintenance procedures that you should take care of as well while you are at it These are not specific to winter, but it does not hurt to take care of them now Clean your battery posts, inspect your spark plug wires, inspect your brakes, and check your engine oil These are all simple to do and you might as well get them over with now

If you live in a cold climate, you should be particularly careful to perform these simple maintenance procedures before every winter The winter is one of the worst times to be in an accident, and simple maintenance procedures can prevent this from happening

Audi in 2008 will be hoping to improve on what has been a stellar twelve months Naturally more premium manufacturers such as Ford and Vauxhall have had the most success in terms of sale lists in dealerships, but out of prestige car ranges, Audi seem to be a top player in what is a lucrative sector of the market But what has given Audi dealerships such a boost? Is it new styling and engines, or simply an increase of brand recognition? Added to this what can Audi dealerships deliver in the next year?

One of the reasons behind the good fortune of Audi dealerships has been the increase in business customers; for the first time last year, the little manufacturer from Germany managed to overtake its much bigger competitor, BMW Seemingly companies are now more inclined to use Audis to fill their fleets where as in the past BMW has been the main choice Once again Ford tops the charts but Audi are gaining and may even enter the top five in the business registrations table

This has mainly been a result of the popularity of the Audi A4 with business customers Recently it was voted Europe’s number one executive car This car was championed by a variety of motoring magazines across the whole of Europe This popularity over similar models such as the BMW 5 and 6 Series as well as the Mercedes C Class will greatly pleasure Audi dealerships They will feel as if they are finally getting the recognition they deserve

So what new developments will be occurring on the forecourts of Audi dealerships this year?

First and foremost is the Audi A3 convertible Created to rival Peugeot’s 206 and the more pricy Mercedes hard top it will certainly put a smile on the face of many While it cannot be considered cheap it can be considered value for money, with fabulous styling that give the car looks to die for and performance figures to match some have described it as a thing of beauty Audi have abandoned past wisdom and instead of installing a hardtop in the car that would make it heavy with poor handling, they have instead opted for a soft top that while keeping the rain out, reduces the weight and does not affect the handling

This year will also see further releases of the A4 class Predominantly 2008 will see the release of the sedan and wagon models with new spoilers and styling This will undoubtedly improve the popularity of this already popular car There will also be new interior packages for the Audi A4 models this year Most dealerships will be offering these new options

The A5 coupe is to be released this year to compete with rival models such as the BMW 3 Series and 6 Series coupes The car will have a new chassis setup that is hoped to improve handling by placing the engine behind the front wheels rather than Audis of old that had their engines in front of the forward wheel axle The A6 will also get an upgrade in terms of styling but in effect remains the same car as last year

Overall Audi dealerships have much to look forward to this year They will be hoping to build upon what was a good year in 2007, especially in terms of sales Added to these models there is one that has already caused a great deal of excitement in the motoring world The R8 brings futuristic styling and performance to the forecourt, although finding these in dealerships will most probably be a Herculean task Pre-ordering has already rendered any ‘off the forecourt’ buying useless Other than this of course, dealerships will be hoping to build on the ingresses into the business and family car market

Underdogs What is it about them we like so much? By sheer definition an underdog is inferior to its rival and therefore shouldn’t have any fans Yet charm counts for a lot and so in any walk of life the second favourite is always the people or neutrals’ favourite A lower division football team playing Manchester United in the FA Cup will always have large support, despite the bookies offering no odds for a United win Remember Eddie the Eagle? The British ski jumper who was rubbish, yet he’s a national treasure for going to the Olympics and having a go The Vauxhall Corsa is in a similar boat By no means rubbish, it has always found itself in an overcrowded small car market where the Ford Fiesta has reigned supreme

The Corsa however is still a very successful car and I put this down to two key factors: it’s very good and appears in everyone’s holiday memories Go to any car hire place on holiday and under the small car category I’d be willing to bet my house that nine times out of ten you’ll take receipt of a Vauxhall Corsa The reason for this is quite simple – people that hire things treat them like something they’ve stepped in

I’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve rented a DVD only for it to stop halfway through the movie The reason is always a massive scratch right across the good bit of the film, where someone appears to have been playing air hockey with the disc Car hire is no different, with holidaymakers racing from seaside town to seaside town with no regard for their vehicle’s wellbeing This then is why the Vauxhall Corsa gets the nod for being abused – it can take the punishment

I’ve fond memories of my time on holiday driving the last generation Corsa in 2007 and whilst I treated it like royalty compared to the bloke before me, who seemed to take a cliff and slam it into the side of the car, I certainly wasn’t a Sunday driver either Once I’d overcome the whole driving on the wrong side of the road routine, I found the Corsa a joy to drive through the twisting mountain roads of Ibiza It had great air conditioning too and was super economical despite racking up hundreds of miles I however am aware that it was so bland to look at you could park it in the middle of Manchester United’s cup tie and no one would notice

Great news with the new model then because it looks fantastic The car is all triangles and other angles and manages to balance sophisticated styling for the gents with that cute and fun factor for the ladies The front headlights rake up to the sides, the mirrors follow the triangle theme and the bulge above the rear wheels gives it an aggressive, sporty stance Unlike some of its rivals it hasn’t plumped solely for style or solely for driver experience but has aimed for the middle ground between the two What you get as a result is a car that on paper isn’t the best at anything but overall could very well be number one

The handling is well mannered and the Corsa feels composed at all times Once you’re out on the windy roads however, you can really start to have fun The engine options for the standard car may not give it too much get up and go, but the great handling means you can carry much of your speed through the corners without getting on and off the brake pedal

Your best options on the engine front are either the 1 4 litre petrol which develops 90bhp and returns 47 9mpg, or the 74bhp 1 3 litre diesel unit which although initially noisy, is refined once heated up This returns a whopping 61 4mpg combined although you may find the 0 60mph dash of 13 6 seconds too sluggish

When it comes to build quality, even holidaymakers will have trouble damaging the new car, with both exterior and interior well put together and using better quality materials The piano black dashboard is very striking and all the dials and instruments fall easily to hand Rear leg room isn’t great for adults as the back seats cannot be moved back and forth however the boot space more than makes up for this

Despite all these improvements and to my mind the new Vauxhall Corsa being that special breed of car that can do everything well, it’ll still be seen as the underdog compared to the Fiesta However don’t let this sway your judgement because the Corsa really is the champion is disguise

Your car alternator is a part of the vehicles charging system If you turn the ignition and the battery fails to crank the engine, the problem may be with the battery itself However, it is also possible that the alternator is no longer capable of holding a charge When there’s a problem with the alternator, the battery will be unable to send a current to the engine In this article, I will explain an easy way to identify whether your car’s alternator is going bad (i e not charging properly) I will also describe a few factors that can cause your alternator to become incapable of holding a charge

Identifying The Problem

You can usually tell whether the charging problem is your battery or the alternator by watching your car’s headlights Here’s how: start your car and turn your headlights on With your car in “Park,” gently put pressure on the gas pedal If you don’t see any change in your headlights’ intensity, your charging system is working properly However, if you notice that your headlights become dimmer when you press on the gas pedal, it means that they’re being powered by the battery Your alternator isn’t producing a current

On the other hand, if the headlights grow brighter, it means your alternator is producing a current, but not very much In fact, it may not be generating enough to keep the battery properly charged when your car is idling

This method is not infallible for identifying a bad alternator, but it works most of the time

What Can Cause A Bad Alternator?

Louis-Joseph Chevrolet was born on December 25, 1878, Canton of Jura, Switzerland He soon grew up to become a racing driver and a co-founder of the one of the greatest of the classic American cars, Chevrolet Motor Car Company

As a young man, he developed his mechanical skills and interest in car racing in Beaune, France Here, he worked for the Roblin mechanics shop from 1895 to 1899 He soon migrated to Montreal, Quebec in Canada in 1900 and then moved on to New York City where he was hired by FIAT

He was a mechanical genius who had little formal education In 1909, he learned car design and started designing his own engine for a new car The engine was an overhead valve six that he built in his own machine shop at Grand River Boulevard, Detroit

Shortly after, he partnered with William Durant to start his company In 1915 due to differences on design Chevrolet sold his share in the company to Durant The next year, the company folded and became Durant’s General Motors

At this time, Chevrolet shifted his interest to the sports car industry where he created a state of the art race car It was called the Cornelian and it finished 20th in the 1915 Indy 500 In 1916, Louis partnered with his younger brother Gaston and started the Frontenac Motor Corporation where they designed and produced another line of racing cars Their most famous product was the Fronty-Ford racers

Louis Chevrolet died on June 6, 1941 Detroit, Michigan He almost died penniless and his remains are buried in the Holy Cross and Saint Joseph Cemetery in Indianapolis, Indiana His beautiful bust greets us at the entrance to the museum of the Indiana Motor Speedway
